JACK Compton’s loan move to Merthyr Town has freed up some money for Newport County AFC manager Graham Westley to add to his squad.
The Exiles boss has already added 13 new players since January 1 but he is still looking for free agents to help in the battle against relegation.
And he hopes others will follow Compton out of the door to make way for more new arrivals at Rodney Parade.
“It clears a small amount of funds if we did want to do anything else, if the right option was there,” said Westley.
“There are [other] lads who are there and I’m waiting for them to go out.
“There’s lads who need to go for their own careers and we definitely need to clear things down.
“You don’t want players around who aren’t going to be part of your plans or aren’t likely to feature.
“At this time of the year there’s always going to be one or two free agents who could come in and do a job.
“And if we clear funds down it gives us the opportunity to do that.”
