IF EVER I could predict a worst case scenario for Newport County AFC, it would be for Morecambe’s Kevin Ellison to defeat us at Rodney Parade once again and push us one step closer to non-league football.

After a frustrating week for the Exiles, tomorrow night’s match with Morecambe is an absolute must win.

Against Grimsby it was a frustrating day, whether County defended well or Grimsby offered little in the game is hard to tell, but what is all but sure is that creatively the Exiles were very poor.

Although it wasn’t the best of performances, there is more confidence in the defence and prior to Saturday their defensive record was outstanding.

Up front County were exceptionally poor, for a large majority of the game County didn’t really threaten the visitors.

A point was taken, when ideally it needed to be three.

I missed out on a trip to Cambridge, as an avid football traveller I supported Roda JC in the Netherlands and KV Mechelen in Belgium this weekend.

Following the updates through Twitter, a horrendous string of events unravelled and I could only feel terrible for the travelling fans who endured a sour end to what looked like an optimistic turn.

A win would have put us four from safety with a game in hand, but when it turned to seven points it really does put the pressure on tomorrow's game.

I can only point out the obvious, good teams go in front and win games, and if County are going to close that gap it comes by winning games.

This is the time in the season when things start to become real, and when you’re at the bottom of the table you know you’ve got to give everything to make sure you aren’t going down.

Home matches against smaller teams, or teams in the lower half, are massive and teams who stay up utilise those games and go and win them.

The fact is there is still time for County and although their survival bid has taken a big blow, it is far from over yet but time is running out.

At Rodney Parade there are plenty of games that County have to go and win, this is one of them.
