THIS is the week I stopped believing that Newport County would stay up – the relegation six-pointer against Leyton Orient is our last lifeline.

I hate negative press especially in sport, but sadly I’ve begun to think that it won’t happen.

I’d be more than happy to be proved wrong, and there’s no better game than to host a fellow struggler in Orient who haven’t won away from home since November.

Tuesday evening turned out to be one of the most miserable evenings in my life, a scrappy draw, missed chances, and a handball that almost 1,500 people could see, but not the referee.

The trip to Mansfield has never been easy, and County once again went from a winning position to a losing one.

It just sums up the luck of an Exiles supporter than a powerful shot hit the arm of Craig Reid only then for a handball to be given.

Jaanai Gordon’s dismissal was tough to take, especially as only moments before either of his yellow cards, Aaron Williams was about to replace him as a substitute.

County did miss a few names too, David Pipe and Mark O’Brien have both been brilliant at the back and hopefully can return soon.

We’ve have had rotten luck with decisions but that isn’t the reason that we’re bottom of the league, we have to improve and win games.

There are positives, Alex Samuel is playing very well, Reid’s passing was good and Westley has got this team giving absolutely everything.

Away days aren’t the same, it was tense, it was frustrating and fans didn’t even seem to be enjoying their football, not in the slightest.

Westley himself endured some harsh words from supporters at the end of the game, and he’s an experienced enough manager to know that when you’re bottom of the league fans are going to blame you for anything that happens on the pitch.

But, despite everything, Hartlepool have only picked up a point this week and Orient didn’t get anything.

I said Morecambe was a must-win last week, but this Saturday is the chance to put things right; if we lose I think everyone will start to realise that County won’t survive.
