NEWPORT County AFC caretaker manager Michael Flynn insists his team will keep “scrapping” after they moved off the bottom of League Two.
Ryan Bird’s second-half penalty earned County a 1-0 win at Morecambe and a second successive victory since Flynn replaced Graham Westley in the dugout.
The three points lifted the Exiles above Leyton Orient on goal difference and they are now seven points from safety with a game in hand.
"It is not easy, but the boys were outstanding,” said Flynn.
"We had enough chances to wrap up the game earlier but the boys showed great character.
"We kept a clean sheet. I was very nervous, but tried not to show it.
"It's a brilliant win. We will keep fighting and we will keep scrapping."
Wow that felt good. Thank you to all the fans that travelled. Onwards and upwards @NewportCounty pic.twitter.com/vOgWfjoqLf
