THE defeat to Plymouth Argyle was an utterly horrendous day and now Mike Flynn is given another big managerial task to get Newport County AFC back on track.

Coming back from such a heavy defeat is never an easy thing to do, and with three games left Flynn needs to turn things around fast.

What’s been Flynn’s biggest asset since taking over from Graham Westley is his ability to restorie belief in the squad, and he has to do that once again.

On Good Friday County looked excellent enjoying success over Yeovil. They were defensively strong, and they controlled the game very easily, exactly what a good team should do in their home games.

Yesterday County started well but after 40 minutes the sell-out Home Park crowd saw exactly why Plymouth will be in League One next year when Argyle took the lead with a good move.

Only minutes later they saw why Newport were in the relegation zone, as a defensive error cost them the second. Then the goals just kept coming, as County were utterly embarrassed on the big day.

In fairness Plymouth’s finishing was outstanding, and they are a team who will do very well in England’s third tier.

Both teams did only have only a two-day break from Friday and, with Championship facilities, their fitness levels will always have the advantage.

But luckily Leyton Orient managed to beat Hartlepool United to sustain the one point gap County have with the Pools.

Yet for me the gap is now two points. The Exiles shared similar goal difference with Hartlepool but after a tonking in Devon they may need to rely on points. How cruel could it be if it came down to a single goal.

So next it’s Accrington Stanley, ‘who are they?’ as the advert once said. Well they are a team in flying form and are now only two points from the play-offs.

Not an easy match at all for the Exiles, but County have been known to spoil a good run in their time.

As the season draws closer to the end survival is in County’s grasp, I believe in Mission Flynnpossible!
