MIDFIELDER Mark Randall has left Newport County AFC after just over a year at Rodney Parade.

The club announced today they had terminated his contract by mutual consent for family reasons.

The 27-year-old arrived in South Wales on a two-year deal last May and scored in his second appearance for the Exiles, a 3-2 League Cup defeat to Milton Keynes Dons.

However, the ex-Arsenal playmaker fell out of favour with former County boss Graham Westley and was transfer-listed at his own request in January.

At the time his partner was expecting the couple's second child and wanted to be closer to family in Milton Keynes - Randall then had to commute to Newport from Buckinghamshire.

Speaking in March, Randall said he was “treated quite unfairly” by Westley, who had been sacked a week earlier.

Randall came in from the cold following Westley's departure and played a part in the Exiles' famous escape from relegation under Michael Flynn.

A very brief statement from the club read: “Newport County AFC have terminated Mark Randall’s contract by mutual consent due to family reasons.

“Mark played an important part in the club achieving the ‘Great Escape’ last season and we wish him all the best in his future career.”

In all, Randall played 27 times for Newport, scoring three goals.
