HE’S already made four new signings this summer and Michael Flynn is still aiming to bring two more strikers and a left-back to Newport County AFC before the big kick-off in League Two.

Flynn has added Robbie Willmott, Matty Dolan, Lamar Reynolds and Frank Nouble to the squad that pulled off the Great Escape in May.

But with 14 players departing Rodney Parade, including Mark Randall and Jennison Myrie-Williams in the past 10 days, the Exiles boss is still looking for more recruits.

“We still want a few more in and I’ll be speaking to the board,” said Flynn.

“They’ve been very supportive but I need to bend their ear for a couple more. I’m sure they’ll be fed up of me by the end of the month but there’s a few more I want in.

“You can’t just rush into these things but hopefully one or two things come off that we are trying to do.

“The priority is getting strikers in. I want to get in definitely one and maybe two more up front and possibly another left-back.”

County’s first friendly is at Undy Athletic on Friday, July 14 (kick-off 7pm), and Flynn says the warm-up matches will help him settle on specific targets.

“We’ll get more of an idea of what we’re missing when the friendlies get going,” he said.

“It can work the other way as well where we’re looking at something and we might decide we don’t need it.

“But generally we know our targets and we know what we want and fingers crossed we get them.

“There’s one I want to get done ASAP and then I will be able to relax a little bit and take a little bit more time.

“We have missed out on one or two but that shows the type of player I’ve been looking at,” he added.

“I want boys to come in and strengthen the team, not just be as good as what we’ve got.

“They need to be better. The rest of the signings I’m looking for have got to be ready to go and able to improve the team.

“I’m not going to sign somebody just for the sake of it and if it means things are a little bit slower than I’d like then that’s what it has to be.”

Flynn also expects to strengthen the squad further with loan moves before the end of August.

“We will be looking at loans as well,” he said. “The kind of players I want will be with their teams in pre-season.

“I don’t want to take a loan just for the sake of it. I want someone who can affect the first team and the starting XI like Rhys Healey and Josh Sheehan did last year.

“We need that kind of calibre of player but unfortunately they’re both out injured so it won’t be those two.”
