NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn does not expect to add any new faces to his squad on transfer deadline day but there could be players leaving Rodney Parade on loan today.

Asked if he would be signing anyone before tonight’s 11pm deadline, the Exiles boss said: “I’m not going to be very busy at all.

“It is what it is; we’re at the end of the budget and I’ll make do with what we’ve got.

“There’s quite a few out there that would tempt me but we can’t do it as a club.

“Unless one or two go quite soon it’s going to be very hard to get something done.”

Fringe players such as Jazzi Barnum-Bobb could be heading out of the club on loan but there is no real urgency on County’s part.

“For those going out we have circulated a couple of names but that’s not really going to affect us because if they do go they’re likely to go to a lower level where the deadline doesn’t actually come in today,” explained Flynn.

“So nobody’s going to be panicking about that.

“They’ll be going out to get some minutes under their belt and some confidence back in them.”

Flynn has signed 11 players this summer and is happy with his transfer window business.

“The deadline does make it difficult for clubs like ourselves because if you get a few injuries you’re really struggling,” he said.

“We haven’t got the budgets for big squads so you’ve got to be quite switched on about your business throughout the summer and prepare ready for January.

“It was easier to have the loan window for us lower down the ladder.”

Flynn believes the Premier League clubs would be better off if the window closed before the start of the season but he’s glad to have had the extra month to add the likes of Padraig Amond, Joe Quigley, Ben White and Reece Cole.

“The top level teams need this window to shut sooner because there’s nothing but distractions and an obscene amount of money flying around,” he added.

“Shutting the window before the season starts would make it much harder for us but for the big boys it would be easier for them because there’s a lot of unsettled players.

“There’s going to be some crazy moves today and why wait until the last day? If you’re going to make a move for somebody why hasn’t it been done already?”
