CHARLIE Hopkins has today resigned as a director of Newport County AFC.
The Newport-born lawyer acted as the solicitor for County, Colwyn Bay and Caernarvon in their legal battle against the FAW to remain in the English football system in the early 1990s.
Hopkins was elected to the board in 2016 and initially put in charge of policy development.
His resignation follows that of Malcolm Temple as chairman of the owners’ board last month.
The club is holding an open supporters meeting on Thursday between 7pm and 9pm in the Bisley Suite at Rodney Parade. The doors will open at 6.30pm.
The meeting will be formed in two main parts.
The first part will be a club update by chief executive Alex Tunbridge and an academy update from academy manager Byron Anthony.
The second part will be a Trust update by interim chair Shaun Johnson which will recap on the new structure and the forthcoming election process.
Both parts of the meeting will finish with an opportunity for supporters to ask questions.
