MICHAEL Flynn has challenged his Newport County AFC players to end Notts County’s unbeaten league record at Meadow Lane tomorrow.

The Exiles’ saw their Rodney Parade run ended by Colchester United last week and Flynn wants to inflict similar misery on the Magpies this weekend.

“They haven’t lost at home so it’s there for the taking,” said the manager.

“Let’s be the first team to go and beat them there.

“They are a strong team and it will be a tough game but they’ve had a little dip in form so hopefully we’ll catch them at the right time.

“I’m confident that we can go there and cause them problems.

“I just hope we have that killer touch and get the win because I think the boys have been magnificent and we probably deserve a few more points.

“We’ve just conceded sloppy goals,” he added. “The effort has been there and the amount of chances we’ve created has been there but we’ve maybe switched off a little bit at times.

“But the way we finished the Mansfield game [last Saturday] was very pleasing.”

Another motivating factor for Flynn and many of his players will be the memories of the final game of last season when the Exiles pulled off the Great Escape with a dramatic 2-1 win over Nolan’s men (above).

“With the way they tried to relegate us at the end of last season, I’m sure the boys will be up for it,” he said.

“But it’s done now and it’s part of our history so I hope we’re just concentrating on what’s ahead of us.

“The players have rested up this week and I’m hoping we’ll be going there full of energy and freshness.”

The hosts are second place in League Two and will provide a stern test for the sixth-placed Exiles.

“They’ve got an ambitious young manager in Kevin Nolan, he’s played at the highest level and he’s obviously got a bit of backing as well,” added Flynn.

“He’s putting together a strong squad and I’m sure they’ll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.”
