NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn insists he is not concerned by his side’s stuttering league form but he admits they do need a win to keep pace with the League Two play-off contenders.

County made it safely through to the FA Cup second round with a 2-1 victory over League One Walsall two weeks ago.

But they have gone four games without a win in League Two after defeats to Colchester United and Notts County and frustrating home draws with Mansfield Town and Port Vale.

The 1-1 draw with Vale last week left the Exiles in ninth place in the table, just a point below the play-off places after 17 matches.

But, as he prepares for tomorrow’s trip to second-placed Accrington Stanley, Flynn says he’s not paying too much attention to the table at this stage of the season.

“I’m not too concerned about where we are in the league,” said the Exiles boss.

“I’ll start looking at the table come the end of January. That’s when I’ll start worrying about it and hopefully we’ll be in the mix.

“We need a win to keep things ticking over and keep people happy,” he added.

“We want to win every football match we compete in and we need a win.

“Is it a crisis if we don’t win? No, but if we want to keep progressing and staying in the mix then we need to start picking up points.”

Flynn says he has been happy with the performances, if not the results, since County’s last league win at Forest Green Rovers on October 14.

“I’m not worried,” he said. “Obviously I want more points but the performances have been there.

“In the Colchester game we probably should have got a draw out of it.

“Against Mansfield we deserved to win, Notts County – we all know what happened there and last Friday it was one atrocious error that gave Port Vale a point.

“Apart from that the performances have been solid and I’m not too concerned.”

He continued: “Expectations have risen; I can understand why that is and I take it as a compliment.

“The players have been superb since I’ve been in charge and we have another challenge in front of us now.

“We’ve got three games in a week again and we want to get as many points as we can.”

After tomorrow’s clash at the Wham Stadium, County host struggling Barnet on Tuesday before going to fifth-placed Swindon Town on November 25.

Defender Mark O’Brien is fit to face Accrington despite a niggling foot injury but captain Joss Labadie is still doubtful and fellow midfielder Matty Dolan is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season last week.

“Mark O’Brien is OK but Joss is 50-50,” said Flynn. “I thought he was close on Tuesday but he’s still a little bit stiff so I’m not sure.

“Obviously Matty Dolan is suspended so I could do with Joss being fit, if I’m honest.”
