FIGURES released by the Football Association show that Newport County AFC spent just over £19,000 on agents’ fees between February 2017 and January 31 this year.

The exact figure of £19,058 puts County 18th in the table in terms of fees paid to agents during that period.

Only six teams – Stevenage (£17,420), Accrington Stanley (£9,632), Crewe Alexanadra (£9,388), Morecambe (£8,801), Wycombe Wanderers (£7,311) and Crawley Town (£4,680) – spent less than the Exiles.

The figures, made public in accordance with the requirements of the FIFA Regulations on Working with Intermediaries and the FA Regulations on Working with Intermediaries, also show that Michael Flynn’s men spent more than League One club Gillingham (£17,030) and less than National League outfit Leyton Orient (£39,537).

The only transaction involving County where an intermediary was used from February 2017 to January 31 this year was the signing of Padraig Amond from Hartlepool United last August.

Paul Nicholls of Elite Management Agency is listed as the agent involved in the transfer.

But Nicholls did not necessarily receive the full figure of £19,058 for the transfer of Amond (below with Flynn).

Payments included in these figures may have been made in respect of transactions entered into prior to February 2017.

The total payment figure per club will, therefore, not necessarily relate directly to those transactions listed involving a registered intermediary which were entered into between February 2017 and January 31 this year.

League Two teams paid a total of £958,969 to agents during the two transfer windows.

The top six spenders were Coventry City (£113,620), Mansfield Town (£85,940), Chesterfield (£80,477), Notts County (£76,426), Luton Town (£75,525) and Forest Green Rovers (£70,846).

Between them those six clubs paid £422,357 – 44 per cent of the total fees paid by all 24 clubs.

Four of the top six spenders are in contention for promotion, either automatically or via the play-offs.

Coventry are currently seventh, Mansfield are eighth, Notts County fifth and Luton Town second.

Chesterfield (24th) and Forest Green (22nd) appear to have got less value for money from their transfer activity.

But leaders Accrington Stanley and third-placed Wycombe Wanderers have spent wisely as they are 20th and 23rd respectively in terms of fees paid to agents.

Meanwhile, the League Two team of the season was announced yesterday and no County players made the cut.

Five Luton players are joined by two from Coventry, two from Accrington and one each from Lincoln City and Wycombe.

Lining up in a 4-3-3 formation, the team is: Burge (Coventry); Potts (Luton), Sheehan (Luton), Willis (Coventry), Stacey (Luton); Bostwick (Lincoln), McConville (Accrington), Berry (Luton); Akinfenwa (Wycombe), Hylton (Luton), Kee (Accrington). Manager: Coleman (Accrington).

Loan players were not eligible for inclusion so Exiles ace Ben White was not considered.

Fellow defender Mickey Demetriou also missed out. He will be in the club shop from 2.30pm tomorrow selling raffle tickets to win his match-worn shirt from the FA Cup fourth round against Tottenham Hotspur.

Second prize is a signed FA Cup fourth round match ball and third prize is a signed match programme from the Spurs tie.

Tickets are just £2 and all proceeds will be going to the Royal Gwent Hospital paediatric ward.

The three winning numbers will be drawn at half-time during the penultimate home match of the season against Accrington on April 24.

As well as the prizes, each of the three winners will also receive two free tickets to the final home match of the season against Cambridge United on April 28.
