MICHAEL Flynn has rallied the Newport County AFC fans to make their voices heard at Rodney Parade today and roar the Exiles on to a win that could take them to the top of League Two.

Newport boss Flynn is expecting a good turnout for this afternoon’s showdown with Yeovil Town (kick-off 3pm) following his team’s excellent start to the new campaign.

County, without a defeat in six league fixtures, are second behind leaders Lincoln City on goal difference going into the game against Darren Way’s Glovers, who are in fine form themselves.

“Let’s get behind the team and the club,” said Flynn. “We’ve all been through the bad times but now the football we’re playing is really encouraging and the position we’re in is encouraging.

“It’s helped by the fans as well. The ones that come away have been fantastic, the home fans have been through thick and thin.

“You’ve always got that hardcore group of fans but now we want to get as many as we can and hopefully they become hooked on Newport County and follow us for the rest of their days.

“We want them on a consistent basis and to do that we’ve got to keep producing the results and performances.

“They’re out there, I know they’re out there, so hopefully they all come together, and it might be a bigger crowd now because the school holidays are over and everybody is back in their routine.

“I’m looking forward a much-improved crowd.”

Taking last season into account, the Exiles have won their last six on home soil, and another one today may well see a club nearly relegated last May sitting pretty atop the league table.

“We’ve won the last six home games in the league, three from last season and three from this, so Rodney Parade is a bit of a fortress at the minute,” added Flynn.

“I really want it to be seven wins on the bounce come 5pm.”

On potentially taking over at the summit, he continued: “I don’t care, as long as we’re in the top three all season, it’s the same outcome.

“It’ll just be that we’ve won a match and managed to close the gap on Lincoln if they have messed up.

“But I’m not interested in Lincoln, we’ve got to take care of business at home and get the points on the board as quickly as possible.”
