NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn has a difficult task on his hands as he contemplates his best attacking options for tomorrow night’s home match against League Two’s bottom club Macclesfield Town.

Flynn started with Padraig Amond and Antoine Semenyo up front against Cambridge United on Saturday but the pair struggled to make an impact until they were joined by Jamille Matt.

The substitute followed up his two goals against Chelsea under-21s last week with another brace against Cambridge to help County fight back from 2-0 down to win 4-2.

“We made a big decision to put Jamille on and it changed the game,” said Flynn afterwards.

“I’m paid to make those decisions and I hope I get more right than I get wrong.”

Matt, who is now top scorer on six goals, will be hoping that he’s done enough to earn a starting spot against the Silkmen.

He could line up alongside Amond, who ended his nine-game goal drought with the Exiles’ second on Saturday.

Flynn is a big fan of the hard-working Irishman, who ran himself into the ground helping the team defend narrow leads at Port Vale, Oldham Athletic and Tranmere Rovers last month.

“I never get tired of praising him,” said the boss. “He’s a fantastic professional and the work he does for the team is exceptional.

“Sometimes he’s too honest and he does too much if you’re looking from a selfish point of view but from a team view and from a manager’s view he’s a pleasure to have.”

And with talented teenagers Semenyo and Mark Harris also at his disposal, Flynn is spoiled for choice up front.

“Antoine’s a little bit raw but he’s a big talent,” he said. “He’s got strength, pace, he can go with either foot and he’s good in the air. He just needs to hone a few more skills.

“Mark Harris is chomping at the bit as well so we’ve got options.”
