NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn says he will pick a strong team for the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Plymouth Argyle on November 13.

Chelsea under-21s’ 5-0 win at Plymouth last night means they top the Southern Group C.

But County know that a win over Plymouth, which is worth £10,000 in prize money, will see them progress to the next round and a four-goal victory would see them finish top of the group and guarantee a home draw.

“I don’t know how many I’ll have fit but now we’re in that position I’ll play the strongest team I can because I think the finances are important to the club,” said Flynn.

“It’s going to be straight after the Metropolitan Police [FA Cup] game as well so we’ve got to weigh things up and work out what is more beneficial.”

The Exiles lost 1-0 at Swindon Town in their first match in this year's tournament before beating the Chelsea youngster 3-0 at Rodney Parade in September.

Plymouth cannot progress after losing both their opening matches.

The Pilgrims struggled to get going at Home Park on Tuesday night and Chelsea's Charlie Brown opened the scoring in the 21st minute.

The second came 10 minutes later when Tafari Moore was out of position, Juan Castillo found the space and crossed the ball only for it to deflect into the back of the net via the post off of Yann Songo'o.

The Blues continued to create most of the chances and their third goal came in the 74th minute, with Martell Taylor-Crossdale getting a deserved goal.

The lively Faustino Anjorin finally netted in the 87th minute and the final goal of the game came from Daishawn Redan.
