NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn is expecting John Sheridan to have his Carlisle United players fired up for Saturday’s League Two clash at Brunton Park.

Carlisle are without a win since October 6 and have lost their last five home games without scoring a goal to slump to 16th in the table.

Their latest defeat came in heart-breaking fashion last Saturday as they conceded a 96th-minute winner against visitors Yeovil Town.

But Flynn is certain that Sheridan, who was in charge at County in the 2015-2016 season, will be determined to turn things around against his former club.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” said Flynn. “I know Shez and he’s a very good manager.

“He’ll have them ready to respond after a bit of a disappointing run. He won’t stand for that for too long.

“They conceded right at the death against Yeovil so they’re going to be hurting.

“They’ll be up for it and in our faces and I’m expecting a very tough game.

“It’s a long journey and it’s not ideal but everybody has got to go there,” he added.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re up for the challenge and hopefully we’ll have a few more back and we can have a go at them.”

Flynn worked as a first-team coach during Sheridan’s brief reign at Rodney Parade and he’s full of admiration for the former Republic of Ireland international.

“He’s someone who has done very well in the game and someone I’ve got a lot of respect for,” said the Exiles boss.

“He’s a good coach and he’s very tactically aware but he’s a winner and he doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

“I think he’s mellowed since he got fined but he’s passionate and that’s what makes him the winner that he is.

“He’s carried that through from being a player into management and he’s got a lot of good traits.”
