MANAGER Michael Flynn is determined to get a fair deal for Newport County AFC when it comes to rescheduling fixtures between now and the end of the season.

County’s progress to the FA Cup fourth round and the postponement of December’s home clash with MK Dons due to a waterlogged pitch at Rodney Parade means that there are three League Two matches that still need to be rearranged.

As well as the MK match, there are still no confirmed dates for the home game against Port Vale and the trip to Notts County.

The Exiles were due to host Vale on January 5 but that match was postponed as Flynn’s men beat Premier League Leicester City in the FA Cup third round the following day.

And they go to Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the cup on Saturday, January 26, instead of taking on the Magpies at Meadow Lane,

County found themselves in a similar situation this time last year when they beat Leeds United in the third round of the FA Cup and took Tottenham Hotspur to a Wembley replay in the fourth round.

And Flynn is adamant that he won’t make the same mistake as last year, when his side was forced to go to Lincoln City just three days after holding Spurs to a draw at Rodney Parade.

“What I will be doing is making sure the rearranged fixtures suit us, unlike last season when they didn’t,” said the Exiles boss.

“We played Spurs on the Saturday and then we had to go to Lincoln on the Tuesday. It’s crazy – we need common sense with that one.”

Flynn’s men saw their league form suffer after their cup run last season and he wants to avoid a repeat.

“Look, after the cup run last season we had Lincoln away (above), Mansfield away and Colchester away,” he said.

“They are three tough games anyway and we’ve already lost two of them [this season].

“We should have got something up at Lincoln two years in a row but we haven’t got a point. At Mansfield we didn’t deserve a point for two years in a row – I think I’m being consistently honest here.

“And Colchester we started off well last season but faded badly. Colchester deserved to win that game and we’ve still got to go there this season [on March 9].

“They were three tough games after or around big cup games and thankfully two of them are out of the way [this season].”

County were beaten 3-2 at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday to stay in 13th place in the League Two table and Flynn struggled to find any positives from the match.

“I thought Tyreeq [Bakinson] did very well,” he said. “Scot Bennett was good protecting and he did a lot of running off the ball, Jamille [Matt] put a good shift in and Antoine [Semenyo] was decent in the second half but [overall] it’s not good enough.

“I’ve got to pick them up now and get them going, because they’re going to be down,” added Flynn, who is believed to be interested in a loan move for former County academy star Regan Poole.

“It’s all good me having a go but they’re my players and I’ll do whatever I can to help them.

"But they’ve got to start cutting out the mistakes and start delivering because they’re too inconsistent at the moment. I don’t know what I’m going to get week in and week out.”
