THE League Two fixture between Newport County AFC and Oldham Athletic at Rodney Parade has been rearranged due to international call-ups as Paul Scholes has resigned as Latics boss.

The EFL has granted the Oldham permission to postpone the fixture due to Daniel Iversen (Denmark under-21s), Johan Branger-Engone (Gabon), Zeus de la Paz and Gevaro Nepomuceno (both Curacao) all being involved on international duty.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, March 23 (kick-off 3pm), it will now take place on Tuesday, April 30, (kick-off 7.45pm).

County say supporters who have already purchased a ticket for this fixture will still be able to use them for this match on the new date.

Manchester United legend Scholes will not be coming to Newport at the end of April, however, as he has today resigned as Latics boss after just 31 days and seven games in charge.

“It is with great regret that I have decided to leave the club with immediate effect,” Scholes said in a statement this afternoon.

“I hoped to at the very least, see out my initial term of 18 months as the manager of a club I’ve supported all my life.

“The fans, players, my friends and family all knew how proud and excited I was to take this role.

“In the short period since I took on the role it unfortunately became clear that I would not be able to operate as I intended and was led to believe prior to taking on the role.

“I wish the fans, the players and the staff – who have been tremendous – all the best for the rest of the season and will continue to watch and support the club as a fan.”
