NEWPORT Gwent Dragons Under-18s enjoyed their first win of the WRU Regional Championship when they thrashed RGC 1404 52-7 on Sunday, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Dragons young guns enjoyed summer wins over English opponents Northampton and Wasps but made a disappointing start to the tournament against their Welsh peers, suffering defeats to Cardiff Blues, the Scarlets and Ospreys.

However, they got up and running by running eight tries past their north Walian counterparts at Ystrad Mynach.

The hosts opened the scoring through wing Josh Hodson after seven minutes but RGC led 7-5 inched in front through centre Ianto Pari’s converted try.

However, lock Bryce Morgan and wing George Gasson crossed to earn the Dragons a 17-7 lead at the break.

Further tries followed from number eight Mike Herbert, Gasson, lock Ben Watts, hooker Owen Hughes and fly-half Arwel Robson secured the spoils.

The Dragons take a break from the championship until January 7 when they will attempt to avenge their 29-13 loss to the Blues.
