WALES boss Warren Gatland says the future is bright for Newport Gwent Dragons given the talent that the region boasts in their backs, writes Chris Kirwan.

Gatland has included 20-year-old wing/full-back Hallam Amos and 19-year-old centre Tyler Morgan, who are on dual contracts, in his 34-strong squad for the Six Nations.

They may have to bide their time as they are looking to break through in the back three, where there is George North, Leigh Halfpenny, Alex Cuthbert and Liam Williams to pick from, and midfield, where Jamie Roberts, Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams and Cory Allen are the options.

But the Wales head coach is relishing the chance to work closely with the talented pair, who gave him a nudge by starring in their region's stunning 40-29 European Rugby Challenge Cup win against Newcastle.

Gatland said: "Both of those players have impressed us and they had very good performances for the Dragons against Newcastle.

"I also thought the Dragons played quite well against the Ospreys and I was looking at their team think that's potentially the makings of a good side, particularly in a year or two with the talent in that back line.

"Tyler will come in with us initially and then we will release him to the Under-20s for a few games. We see a huge amount of talent in him while Hallam has continued to develop and does cover wing and full-back and is a left foot option.

"He is only improving and there are a couple of other players in that Dragons side that we are keeping a close eye on in Jack Dixon and Tom Prydie."

Morgan is likely to feature for Wales Under-20s in their opener against England in Colwyn Bay, which is on the weekend of the Dragons' home LV= Cup encounter with London Welsh.

However, there is likely to be more debate about who he plays for in rounds two and three as Scotland clashes with the Guinness Pro12 encounter with Leinster in Dublin while France is on the weekend of Zebre away.
