LYN Jones has demanded that his charges wise up against Edinburgh this evening as Newport Gwent Dragons attempt to avenge their European humbling.

The Rodney Parade side host the Scots in their final Guinness Pro12 fixture of the season in Newport (kick-off 7.30pm).

They will be fuelled not only by the desire to notch a victory that secures ninth place and a finish above Cardiff Blues – avoiding the tag of Wales' worst for the first time since 2010 – but by getting revenge for last month's 45-16 Challenge Cup semi-final loss at Murrayfield.

Director of rugby Jones labelled the performance as "embarrassing" with his side second best in all facets of the game and destroyed up front.

He has made six changes to the side that lost at Murrayfield, a defeat that was followed by a 29-10 loss to the Scarlets at Judgement Day, with a new half-back partnership of Jason Tovey, his first start at fly-half since January, and Luc Jones.

All eyes, however, will be on the tight game after the Dragons pack, which has been bolstered by the return from suspension of lock Rynard Landman, was dismantled in Scotland.

"Edinburgh are a good side, their set piece work is exemplary and as good as you will get in the league," said Jones.

"The challenge for us is to take that away from them and put pressure on their kicking game.

"We were naive at Murrayfield and they punished us. We need to be wiser about how we go about our business."

The Dragons have made great strides since the autumn but have endured a pair of humbling defeats.

Jones, however, remains confident that his charges are on the right track and in much better shape that when they lost the Pro12 clash in the Scottish capital 24-10.

"Back in October we lost to Edinburgh and the Scarlets and didn't play very well and seven months later the same thing has happened again," he said.

"Things that we have been good at, we did badly. What it does is that it makes you re-evaluate exactly what you are doing and we've learnt so much again from the defeats.

"We are positive and confident for Friday. We are looking for a strong performance and some senior players to stand up and take responsibility and be accountable for actions."

Ashton Hewitt comes in on the wing with Tom Prydie shifting to full-back and Luc Jones is backed up by Richie Rees who hasn't featured in a squad since February.

Rhys Thomas returns to captain the side from hooker, Cory Hill is back at lock and Nick Crosswell and Nic Cudd return to the back row.

Edinburgh make one change to the tight five that destroyed the Dragons in the Challenge Cup semi-final at Murrayfield last month – lock Fraser McKenzie coming in for Anton Bresler – while Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, tormenter in chief that night, pulls the strings from scrum-half.

The Scots, edged out by Gloucester in last Friday's Challenge Cup final, are a point behind the sixth-placed Scarlets in the race for the final automatic qualification spot for next season's Champions Cup.
