NEWPORT Gwent Dragons scrum-half Jonathan Evans says the team go to Munster full of confidence and looking to celebrate another memorable away day triumph, writes Andrew Penman.

The Dragons are traditionally stronger at Rodney Parade than on their travels and they ended their home campaign with a 19-5 win over Edinburgh last Friday.

But the Men of Gwent have also earned some eye-catching scalps on the road this season – winning at Stade Francais and Newcastle on their way to the European Challenge Cup semi-finals.

They beat the Ospreys in Bridgend in the LV Cup and in the Guinness Pro12 the Dragons have humbled Cardiff Blues and Leinster in front of their own fans.

And Evans, who is off to Bath and the Aviva Premiership this summer, hopes to mark his final Dragons appearance with another win in Cork tomorrow.

“In the past Rodney Parade was our fortress and that’s where we seemed to pick up all our points but this season we seem to have won a lot away from home,” said Evans.

“I don’t know why but one of the interesting stats is that we actually do more running in away games for some reason.

“I don’t know whether that’s because we go in with a different mentality or that teams try playing a lot more rugby when they’re playing at home, which means we have to work a lot harder, but there is no difference in attitude from us.”

Evans is not expecting an easy time against title-chasing Munster, who are level on points with Pro12 leaders Ospreys and second-placed Glasgow Warriors.

But he is looking forward to taking the game to the hosts and trying to spoil the party in Cork.

“There are three teams on the same points so Munster have got everything to play for,” he said

“They want a home semi-final for the play-offs so we’re not expecting them to fall over and give us an easy game.

“I suppose we haven’t got as much to play for, other than trying to end the season on a high and a bit of pride.

“But we’re going into the game on the back of a win and we’re just going to go out there and play some rugby.”
