NEWPORT Gwent Dragons captain Rhys Thomas has been accused of biting a Castres player in the win that secured a place in the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Challenge Cup.

The 33-year-old former Wales hooker will attend a disciplinary hearing in London on Wednesday after a complaint was raised by English citing commissioner Dave Guyan.

It is alleged that Thomas, who was a replacement in the Rodney Parade clash, bit Castres' Yannick Caballero in the 67th minute of the bonus-point victory in Newport when the score was 24-18.

The French back row forward slapped the Dragons skipper in the face then complained to Irish official Peter Fitzgibbon, pointing to his right arm, after flashpoint on the floor when chasing a loose ball.

Independent judicial officer Rod McKenzie will decide whether there is a case to answer. Suspensions for biting range from 12 weeks at the low end of the scale to 208 weeks at the top end.

Castres lock Alexandre Bias will attend a disciplinary hearing in Paris on Tuesday for the dangerous tackle on Phil Price that resulted in a red card at Rodney Parade.

The Dragons, whose other hookers are Elliot Dee, Rhys Buckley and Hugh Gustafson, will hope that their captain is cleared to participate in their key Pool Two finale against Sale on Thursday.

They head to Salford looking for a win against the Sharks that would secure top spot and earn a Rodney Parade quarter-final. Lose and they will be on their travels.

"It's really pleasing to qualify and it made my weekend more relaxing because we have achieved one of our targets to get to the quarter-finals," said head coach Kingsley Jones.

"But we now have an opportunity to qualify as one of the top teams. Sale are a good side, especially in Manchester, but we go there with the ambition keeping our momentum from the Castres game."

The Dragons will travel north without Wales centre/wing Tyler Morgan, who isn't quite ready for a return from the shoulder injury suffered in the World Cup quarter-final defeat to South Africa.

The 20-year-old, who could be named in Warren Gatland's Six Nations squad at midday, may come back into the fold in the Guinness Pro12 home fixture with Leinster a week on Friday or the trip to Ulster the following weekend.
