TYLER Morgan is not yet fit enough to take a full part in Wales training while Newport Gwent Dragons will have to wait until the eve of their Guinness Pro12 clash with Leinster to find out whether they can field Hallam Amos.

Centre Morgan has been out of action since suffering a shoulder injury in the World Cup quarter-final defeat to South Africa in October.

The 20-year-old from Caerleon has been named in Warren Gatland’s squad for the Six Nations and had been hoping to feature in the Rodney Parade encounter with the Dubliners on Friday.

However, Morgan may have to wait to put the heat on the fit-again Jonathan Davies and Cory Allen in the battle for the 13 jersey.

“Tyler’s not able to play a full part in training at the minute. We are hoping he picks up pretty soon and he is not that far away from playing,” said assistant coach Neil Jenkins.

“He did exceptionally well for us in the World Cup, so we can keep an eye on him as coaches and the physios can see where he is at.

“We had a huge amount of injuries at the World Cup and strength in depth is key. Tyler is a fantastic rugby player so the sooner we can get him up and running the better.”

Amos has returned from the shoulder injury that he suffered against England at the World Cup in the Dragons’ European Challenge Cup campaign, playing the full 80 minutes in a try-scoring comeback against Castres and 70 minutes against Sale after being yellow-carded.

The 21-year-old ousted Alex Cuthbert for the clash with the tournament hosts at Twickenham and is battling the Lion and Tom James for a spot out wide in the Six Nations opener against Ireland.

With full-back Liam Williams likely to play in the Scarlets’ top-of-the-table clash at Connacht on Saturday afternoon on his return from a foot injury, Gatland must weigh up whether Amos has already proved his fitness and sharpness.

“To be picked against England at Twickenham in the World Cup says an awful lot about Hallam as a person and a player,” said Jenkins.

“He did pretty well until he got injured. These boys are young, enthusiastic and very talented so it’s massive to have them in the squad.”

The players sent out for Pro12 game time from Wales’ 37-strong squad will be released on Thursday. Cardiff Blues face Edinburgh on Saturday while the Ospreys host Glasgow on Sunday.
