MONTPELLIER won't be on the mind when Newport Gwent Dragons head to the capital tomorrow afternoon, insists Wales wing Hallam Amos.

The Dragons are gunning for derby revenge when they take on Cardiff Blues at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park (kick-off 2.30pm) in the Guinness Pro12.

The visitors won't be short of motivation after being robbed of the spoils when the teams met at Rodney Parade in December and in-form speedster Amos insists they are totally focused on the task in front of them.

Next Saturday they travel to France to try and upset Montpellier on their own patch in the European Challenge Cup semi-final but that mouth-watering encounter is not a distraction given that they are about to face their biggest rivals.

"It's the Blues and these are the games that you look forward to; you know that there is going to be a big crowd and you know that everyone is going to be watching," said Amos.

"We had one of the biggest wins in Dragons history and hopefully we can pull that momentum into what is always the biggest game on the calendar.

"Training has been upbeat after a win like that. There is confidence coming back into the team and hopefully that will bear fruit in the run-in."

After finishing above the men from Cardiff last season the 10th-placed Dragons are once again condemned to being Wales' worst region in the Pro12.

The Blues are hunting a place in next season's Champions Cup and will head into the clash as favourites on a plastic pitch that should lead to a high-octane game.

"I wish we could play on it every week! There's a bit more running rugby and that suits our plan with a wider game and getting the ball into the hands of wingers and centres. Hopefully we will have an expansive game," said Amos.

That would lead to some fascinating showdowns that will influence Wales' pecking order for the tour to New Zealand.

"Tom James has been one of the standout players in the league and was rewarded with his Welsh caps over the Six Nations," said Amos.

"They've got some quality players in their back line – Gareth Anscombe at 10 running the show, Rhys Patchell at 15 doing well, both wings, but we've got a good back line and we back ourselves."

Amos will be on the left wing, Adam Hughes will deputise for the injured Ashton Hewitt on the right and Carl Meyer will continue his breakthrough season at full-back.

"Carl has been brilliant and along with Ash has been our find of the season," said the Wales wing about the South African.

"I've been incredibly impressed – I'd like to be playing a bit in the 15 shirt every now and then but I can't get a look in because he is playing so well.

"He's been on fire with a great boot, working on his consistency and physically he is the heaviest and leanest of the backs. He is a massive guy in great shape and in today's world of rugby that's half the battle."
