TIGHTHEAD prop Shaun Knight has left Newport Gwent Dragons to join Bath until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old headed to Rodney Parade last season from his hometown club Gloucester and made 21 appearances, largely as back-up to South African prop Brok Harris.

The Dragons signed former Wales international Craig Mitchell from Cardiff Blues in the summer and also have Welsh-qualified Lloyd Fairbrother and hot prospect Leon Brown on their books.

That meant that Knight has been freed up to join former teammates Taulupe Faletau and Aled Brew at the Rec after the West Country side allowed England tighthead David Wilson to return to Aviva Premiership rivals Newcastle.

Dragons head coach Kingsley Jones said: “We have several options at tighthead with Brok Harris, Craig Mitchell, Lloyd Fairbrother and emerging talent Leon Brown and this move gives Shaun the opportunity to get some game time.”

Bath first team coach Toby Booth, said: “Shaun is a very strong scrummager and we’re excited to see how he continues to develop now that he’s with us.

“We’ve got some very good props within the squad, and Shaun adds to that strength in depth and competition for places.”

Former Dragons boss Darren Edwards is also on the management team at Bath while Rodney Parade favourite Luke Charteris signed for the club from Racing 92 last summer.
