ENGLISH clubs have announced a revamped 12-team Singha Premiership Rugby 7s that doesn’t feature the four Welsh regions.
The Aviva Premiership teams will take part in a new Olympic style competition across two days in Northampton on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29.
The teams will be split into three pools of four before the tournament splits into Cup, Plate and Bowl competitions on day two. The format has been confirmed for the next three years.
Newport Gwent Dragons were runners-up to Gloucester in 2014, the first season that the Welsh sides took part, and triumphed at the Twickenham Stoop in 2015, beating a star-studded Wasps side featuring Christian Wade, Elliot Daly and Joe Simpson.
The Welsh quartet were invited to join their English rivals after agreeing a three-year sponsorship deal with BT Sport that expired at the end of this season.
It is believed negotiations are continuing about a smaller arrangement with the broadcaster, who were the main jersey sponsor for the Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets and had naming rights for Cardiff Arms Park.
