WALES wing Hallam Amos is making good progress in his fitness race for the Six Nations opener against Scotland.

The 23-year-old is sidelined with an ankle injury suffered in the closing stages of the Dragons' New Year’s Eve derby defeat to the Ospreys at Rodney Parade.

Warren Gatland names his squad for the Six Nations on Tuesday and is likely to name Amos after the winger featured in all four autumn Tests, scoring tries against Australia and Georgia.

“The Welsh Rugby Union are looking after Hallam’s rehab and apparently he is making really good progress,” said Dragons head coach Bernard Jackman.

“They are very happy with him, which is great. He didn’t have an op so there is a chance he will be back soon.”

Gatland is also sweating on the availability of wing George North (knee) but full-back Liam Williams made his Saracens return at the weekend from the groin injury he suffered on Wales duty in the autumn.

The Dragons’ injury news is getting better with back row forward Harri Keddie and full-back Zane Kirchner (both shoulder) close to returns. They cannot feature against Bordeaux-Begles on Saturday as they are not registered for Europe.

The region then play a pair of Anglo-Welsh Cup fixtures against Saracens and Worcester before the return of the Guinness PRO14 against Glasgow in Newport on Friday, February 9.

Flanker Ollie Griffiths and centre Tyler Morgan could both be back from ankle injuries by the time the Dragons host the Warriors.
