DORIAN Jones will be out to prove a point on home soil after being recalled for the Dragons’ clash with Edinburgh at Eugene Cross Park tomorrow.

The fly-half will make his fifth appearance of a frustrating season in Ebbw Vale and attempt to take his fine form with the Steelmen in the Principality Premiership into the Guinness PRO14 (kick-off 7.30pm).

The 26-year-old has found himself behind Gavin Henson, Arwel Robson and Angus O’Brien for much of the campaign, while full-back Zane Kirchner was handed the 10 jersey for the last four matches.

However, the former Springbok had a torrid time in Sunday’s 18-15 loss to Benetton and with Henson (hamstring) and Robson (ankle) injured and O’Brien with Wales 7s, Jones gets a chance to pull the strings at a ground he knows well.

The Dragons have moved the fixture north from Rodney Parade to Eugene Cross Park and hope their number 10, who has another season left on his contract, prospers from playing in a familiar setting.

“Dorian came back against Bordeaux-Begles in January and felt that he needed to play a run of games,” said head coach Bernard Jackman.

“He has done that in the Premiership and has kicked very well for Ebbw Vale. His knowledge of Eugene Cross Park will be important for us and it will mean a lot to him with this game being played up there.

“Let’s hope that he brings his kicking boots with him because this is a great opportunity for him to put his stamp on the team and finish the season in pole position.”

Kirchner is moved to midfield for the encounter with play-off hopefuls Edinburgh while Charlie Davies gets the nod at scrum-half, with Dan Babos on Wales Under-20s duty in Ireland.

Wales tighthead Leon Brown makes his first start since returning from the concussion he suffered against the All Blacks in November with Lloyd Fairbrother dropping down to the bench.

There is a back row reshuffle with James Benjamin returning at openside and joining forces with Aaron Wainwright and Lewis Evans, who captains the side and covers lock.

Flanker Ollie Griffiths will make his first appearance since December from the bench where he is joined by fellow powerful back rower Harri Keddie.

The Dragons are hunting a first PRO14 win since beating the winless Southern Kings in September and are fuelled by the frustration of Sunday’s poor display in defeat to Benetton.

The turnaround has been swift to tonight’s game but the hosts won’t be lacking motivation in a first league game that has been moved away from their Rodney Parade home out of choice.

“There is still lots to play for,” said Jackman. “We are learning a lot about the boys and most of the players that feature against Edinburgh will be here next season, so there are rankings to play for.”
