A PONTYPOOL runner was part of a team winning gold at the Caerphilly 10k on June 22.
Lou Summers of Pont-y-pwl and District Runners was part of the East Wales women’s 'vets' team, which beat rivals in the south, north and west of Wales in this inter-regional championship.
The first three women to score out of a team of four came across the finish line within eight seconds of each other, with the others in the team being Niki Morgan of Chepstow Harriers, Lou Howells of Lliswerry Runners and Nichola Gething of Parc Bryn Bach.
The East Wales senior men’s team and the East Wales vets team were both second in their categories.
Niki Morgan said: “Heat made conditions on the course tough, with competitors using water to tip over their heads as well as drink to avoid dangerously overheating. The backdrop of Caerphilly Castle made it a lovely place to hold the inter-regional Welsh championships. The dedicated East Wales team had little time to admire the scenery en-route though, reserving every ounce of focus to race around the undulating course.”
