EBBW VALE made a flying start to life back in the Principality Premiership but head coach Jason Strange is still looking for more in tomorrow's afternoon's clash with Neath at the Gnoll.

The Steelmen kicked off with a hugely impressive 30-29 win against Llandovery in a thriller at Eugene Cross Park.

The Drovers are one of the sides tipped to be in the mix for honours come the end of the season yet Strange is not one for letting his emotions run wild after a single bonus point success.

"I don't make too much of winning one game and we are not going to get carried away," said the former fly-half.

"I always said when in the Championship that the important thing was to improve week to week as individuals and as a group and that doesn't change for the Premiership.

"We were delighted to come out on the right side of an excellent game against Llandovery and it gives us some momentum.

"I have always had confidence in our players, not only in terms of their ability but in their work ethic and honesty and I know that they will want to be better.

"You couldn't fault us in terms of physicality and abrasiveness last week but in attack we weren't as fluent as I'd like while 29 points was way too many to concede.

"That was down to poor discipline and individual errors – we gave away 16 penalties and that is unacceptable."

Ebbw are likely to enjoy plenty of success on their own patch this season and will be a real force if they can also fare well on their travels.

They were thrashed 41-7 last time they headed to the Gnoll in 2009 but it is likely to be tighter tomorrow against a Neath side that were beaten 38-7 by champions Pontypridd at Sardis Road on opening weekend.

The Welsh All Blacks are coached by Rowland Phillips, who had a short spell at Eugene Cross Park in 2009/10, while the boast former Steelmen Aaron Coundley, Marc Jones, Dai Langdon and Aaron Bramwell in their ranks.

Strange said: "Neath have been through a lot of change over the summer but have a lot of experience and some really good individuals, especially (19-year-old Wales international) Dafydd Howells on the wing.

"We will have to perform really well if we are to enjoy another good result but it's a great opportunity for us to impress again."

Captain Damien Hudd will have a late fitness test to see if he can pack down in the second row after receiving a bump to the head against the Drovers.
