FORGESIDE under-9s lost on Sunday to a well organised Rhymney side, but the score did not reflect how well the youngsters played.

In both attack and defence the Black and Ambers were outstanding, no more so than Ben George who was excellent in defence and even better with ball in hand as he bulldozed his way through time and time again, earning him the player of the match award.

Will Marshall had his best game for club as he tackled and linked well at the breakdown, earning him the most improved player award. Once again Ieuan Rowlands excelled in both attack and defence as he ran in two tries.

Harrison Reed continues to improve and again had a solid game defensively as well as when going forward. Edward Winterfeld had another good game as he continues to catch the eye, along with Ben Skyrme who also tackled well and ran hard. Callum Kenvin and captain for the day Dione Kenvin also defended well as did Kai Teale. Final score Forgeside 3 tries Rhymney 9.

Forgeside under 8s entertained Rhymney mini rugby at home which turned out to be a close run game.

From the first whistle the Forgeside team were switched on and eager not to start slow as in previous weeks. The early pressing by Forgeside resulted in a turnover and try to take the lead. Back came Rhymney to score two quick tries which seemed to set out the pattern of the game.

The Forgeside team consisting of captain and improving Rory Jenkins, Alfie McCann, Bailey McCloy, Lacey Probert, Demi Jenkins and Efyn Harper were supporting and offloading frequently, which led to tries being scored by man of the match Evan Weeks, Cian Pearce, Manon Higgins, Erin Higgins and Shay Farthing.

In the end Rhymney ran out winning the game nine tries to six with the scoreline not reflecting how close and competitive the game was. This was Forgeside's performance of the season so far which was credit to the players and pleasing for both parents and coaches.

Final score Forgeside 6 tries Rhymney 9 tries. Next week the Black and Ambers entertain St Joseph's of Newport.
