WALES wing Alex Cuthbert says the players want to beat South Africa on Saturday to reward the fans for their incredible support throughout the autumn internationals.

Cuthbert insists the squad and management are every bit as frustrated as the Welsh public after another defeat to New Zealand.

Wales led until the 69th minute but ended up on the end of a 34-16 defeat as the world champions ran riot in the final ten minutes.

After defeat to Australia and a poor display in the narrow win over Fiji, Cuthbert knows that Wales need to produce a performance and a result to make the whole country proud this weekend.

“You go through the highs of silverware from the last couple of years and you go through some lows,” said Cuthbert.

“That’s professional rugby but the frustrating thing is that we know how well we can play and when we do put that 80-minute performance together we will be a solid team.

“We didn’t get the luck we hoped we would get against New Zealand and hopefully the ball bounces our way this weekend and we get the result.

“It was a great atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium,” added the 24-year-old Cardiff Blues star.

“It is a reason we want to play well, not just for us but for the fans.

“After 69 minutes I thought they thought we were going to win as well.

“There was a lot of tension in that stadium but a bounce of the ball and it went the other way.

“They are a world class side and you make your own luck.”

Cuthbert believes the Springboks will provide a greater physical challenge than the All Blacks but he is certain Wales cam match them.

“South Africa are a totally different team to New Zealand,” he said.

“When the All Blacks have the ball you don’t know what they are going to do because they have so much quality in the forwards and backs.

“The South Africans are more direct, their forwards love mauling and beating the other pack into submission.

“They will be wary of our backs and if we get a lot of ball in hand we can do some damage.

“We have got the firepower to confront them and we showed that in the summer.

“If we can get enough ball and get over the gain line with the players we have got the firepower out wide.

“If the forwards can do the job they have been doing over the last couple of weeks hopefully we can get the result.”
