CWMBRAN were back in action at Celtic Park on Sunday and welcomed northern side Llandudno.

With both teams placed in mid table the outcome of the result was going to have a big impact on league positions.

Cwmbran started the stronger and saw plenty of the ball in the final third but just lacked the quality on their final shot early on. Opportunities from both Alana Murphy and Amy Price went agonisingly wide of the goal.

The best chance of the first half fell to Llandudno as their striker found herself one-on-one in on goal, only for a bobble to take the ball away from her and safely find it's way into the great full arms of Charlie Walker.

The visitors started to settle into the game however neither team could find the break through. Llandudno went close again when Walker slipped but Kayleigh Phipps was on hand to help her team mate clear the ball off the line. Both teams were knocking at the door of their opposing defences but just couldn't convert their chances.

The second half started much brighter and early on Lauren Boyd made a good break forward down the left only to be hacked down. The resulting free kick was struck well by Vicki Randall only for the keeper to pull off a great save to tip it clear of the goal.

The breakthrough eventually came on the hour when Rhiannon Taylor found her shot just chipping the keeper and finding the back of the net to put the home team in front.

Cwmbran knew one goal was not convincing enough and the visitors continued to press for the equaliser. Thankfully it was Celtic that looked like they had sealed the game when Lauren Boyd managed to convert a cross from Murphy.

Llandudno did manage to find the back of the net in the closing stages only to be declared offside. Celtic held firm and protected their clean sheet and picked up a vital three points.

With the league cup next week Cwmbran welcome Cardiff Met to Celtic Park.
