NEWPORT are looking to turn the tables on Neath tomorrow evening by securing a vital victory in their attempt to avoid the ignominy of finishing bottom of the Principality Premiership.

There will be no relegation this season because Swalec Championship champions-elect Bargoed do not have the criteria for promotion but no side wants the embarrassment of propping up the table.

The Black and Ambers are currently bringing up the rear and trail Bridgend by six points and Neath by seven, both of whom have played a fixture more.

Newport have just five games left to clamber off bottom and desperately need to avenge November’s demoralising 23-18 defeat to the Welsh All Blacks at Rodney Parade when the visitors played for 50 minutes with 14 men.

“They were where we are now in the table and had that little bit more energy on the day,” said acting head coach Craig Warlow.

“Concentration and energy levels have to be high while we need to get our processes right to get some go-forward in our game so that we can challenge Neath.

“Important that we bring all those things and that the boys give a good account of themselves and do the jersey proud.

“I have been pleasantly surprised with the work rate of everyone involved at the club over the past few weeks, not just the players but the back room staff.

“Everyone has chipped in to give the players the support so that they can go out and perform. Hopefully they will do themselves justice and enjoy it.”
