PILCS extended their winning run to four consecutive games with an emphatic win over lowly Cwmbran Town in Gwent County League Division One.

Following the disappointment of a postponed cup match with Fairfield United last week, the home side began in confident mood, and were on the offensive from the off.

On 15 minutes, striker Nathan Simons found the ball midway into the opposition`s half, beat two players and hit a wonderful left foot shot from the edge of the area past the keeper into the bottom corner.

Shortly after, defender Lewys Phillips hit a free-kick deep into Cwmbran Town`s area. Chris Pike connected with a great header which rebounded off the bar to Simons who slotted home for his and the home side`s second goal.

Cwmbran were pleased to hear the half time whistle and they returned rejuvenated after the break.

They converted a penalty on 50 minutes which shook the home side, but PILCS responded immediately with a penalty kick of their own which was scored expertly by Darren Phillips.

This was to spell the end of town`s hopes of leaving with any points, and PILCS launched a series of assaults on the visiting goal.

A defensive bungle on 60 minutes saw the ball fall at the feet of ex-town striker Chris Pike who ran at the keeper and stroked the ball into the net to make the score 4-1. The visitors were now well and truly beaten and Pike completed the rout on 80 minutes. He was released down the left and another one-on-one with the visiting keeper resulted in a perfectly placed shot into the bottom corner for his second goal of the game.

PILCS entertain Pill next Saturday and are hopeful of achieving a fifth straight win.
