EASTER 2015 will forever be remembered by rugby fans in Brynmawr but not so much in Tredegar, writes Michael Pearlman.

From Parc Nant y Waun to the Market Hall Cinema, Brynmawr followers will be forgiven for shouting from the rooftops after their team wrote their name in the Welsh rugby record books on Saturday by pummelling Tredegar RFC via a record scoreline.

The 182-7 triumph in the Division Two east clash, is believed to be the largest winning scoreline in Welsh history, topping the 181-0 success of Llanidloes’ over north Wales rivals Holyhead in November 2013.

Formerly a Merit Table club who counted Newport RFC and the likes among their peers, Tredegar have fallen on hard times in last few campaigns and are enduring a disaster this time around, relegation certainties on -20 points for the season.

However, things went from bad to worse on Saturday as they imploded against their Gwent rivals, shipping 28 tries in an 80 minute rugby match that would’ve been stopped in the first five minutes if it had been a boxing contest.

Brynmawr wing Josh Congreaves crossed the gain line a remarkable seven times while outside-half Luke Meredith kicked 42 points in conversions alone.
