NEW Ebbw Vale boss Nigel Davies is delighted at the start his charges have made to the Principality Premiership season but has declared there is plenty more to come, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Steelmen finished as runners-up to Pontypridd on their return to the Premiership in 2014/15 but there has been no sign of second season syndrome.

They opened up with a 20-8 success at Swalec Cup holders Bridgend and last week enjoyed a 30-6 win against Newport at Eugene Cross Park, hooker Rhys Buckley powering over for a bonus point at the death after fly-half Dai Langdon's inch-perfect touch-finder.

Ebbw will attempt to make it three from three when they host Neath tomorrow afternoon and Davies has demanded they maintain their upward curve.

"It was really important to build some momentum at the start of the season," said the former Scarlets, Gloucester and Wales coach, who succeeded Jason Strange in the summer.

"With any change of coach players are a little bit unsure of things and they have new systems to get used to.

"It was important to start with a couple of wins, it hasn't been fantastic rugby but the aim is to get a little bit better every week and there is a long, long way to go.

"There have been elements that we have been pleased with – and our defence has been great – but there are also plenty of work-ons and against Neath I'd like us to be a little bit more clinical."

The Welsh All Blacks are yet to enjoy a win after losing to Newport and Carmarthen Quins but Davies is taking nothing for granted.

"They will come here with nothing to lose," he said. "They have got some dangerous players and play some good rugby so we will have to contain them.

"Every week presents a different challenge and we must get our own house in order first."
