PONTYPOOL will hope to pick up where they left off when they return to SSE Swalec Championship action at Beddau tomorrow afternoon, writes Chris Kirwan.

Pooler enjoyed a break last weekend after winning four games on the spin to climb to third in the table, six points back on a Merthyr side they beat at the Wern and level on points with Swansea.

Pontypool did the double over Beddau two seasons ago, enjoying comfortable 41-21 (away) and 44-8 (home) victories, but team manager Shaun Rees insists there will be no complacency at Mount Pleasant Park.

"We know that Beddau will put in a strong performance and our forwards will have to match their effort," he said.

"We are on a good run and are one of the form sides in the league but there is still more to come for us. I don't think we have been playing particularly well but the boys are working hard and we want to keep improving week on week.

"There are some tough games coming up with Beddau followed by RGC and Cardiff Met and we have to stay on track and keep up with Merthyr and Swansea. We will not be complacent."

Newbridge are on a four-game losing streak and have their work cut out when they take on the leaders on their own patch.

'Bridge started the season impressively and can take heart from a battling performance against champions Bargoed a fortnight ago when edged out 19-13.

Neil Edwards' side sit 11th in the table and will be keen to leave the Wern with plenty of positives to take into clashes with the three teams beneath them – Newcastle Emlyn, Bridgend Athletic and Llanharan – in the coming weeks.
