RODNEY Parade Ltd chief executive Stuart Davies says Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport RFC want a healthy relationship with Newport County – and is working hard to enhance the match day experience for supporters of all three teams.

Exiles interim director Jon Bowkett stated in the official programme for Saturday's clash with Dagenham and Redbridge that "we aren't particularly satisfied with our landlord at present but hopefully that will change in the near future".

He issued a clarification to the Argus that he was speaking as a fan rather than a club official, saying: "We don't want to upset our landlord and there are lots of positives and negatives.

"But I think the relationship could be better and as a club we have to work with Rodney Parade to make it better and make the fans' experience better."

The piece in the programme surprised and frustrated the Dragons hierarchy but Davies has reiterated that he is keen to work closely with his County counterparts.

"I was disappointed to read the comments about the relationship because it's something that I have worked very hard on since coming on board," said the former Wales back row forward, who was appointed last February.

"It hasn't always been an easy relationship in the short time that I have been here because of the huge amount of churn with County (at boardroom level) which has made continuity difficult but I'll speak with Jon to understand and address some of his issues."

He continued: "In terms of Rodney Parade as a venue and the match day experience, that's something that I am always looking at for the benefit of all, whether Dragons, Newport RFC or County. Those who have direct contact with me would tell you that it's always on my agenda.

"Obviously I have more control for matters when it comes to the Dragons and I watched the Castres game from the Hazell Terrace so that I could experience first-hand issues that affect supporters in terms of facilities, service and atmosphere.

"I am a CEO who puts a lot of stock in that and obviously any benefits will also be enjoyed by County."

Bowkett also said in the programme about Rodney Parade "when Newport City Council take over…", a comment that he said was a hypothetical suggestion and clarified that there had been no such discussions.

"Regarding a Newport City Council purchase of the site, it's not really for County to be saying such things," said Davies.

"I know much the council values having a city centre venue but, as was clarified, any suggestion that they are about to buy Rodney Parade is a nonsense."
