CHRIS Levesley can turn a great 2016 into an even one better next week when he represents Great Britain at the World University Rugby Sevens Championships in Swansea.

The Cardiff Metropolitan University student is hoping to help his country claim a third successive world crown on the back of his Ebbw Vale side’s Principality Premiership title success last term.

Levesley, who is studying business management with finance, has signed up for another season at Eugene Cross Park after an impressive debut campaign.

But before he joins up with the Steelmen again for pre-season training, Jersey speedster Levesley has the small matter of a world championships to look forward to.

Taking place at Swansea University’s International Sports Village from July 6-9, the biennial event features 10 men’s and women’s teams from 16 nations.

New Zealand, Australia and the Czech Republic are all competing in the tournament for the first time, joining Italy, France, Spain, China, Kenya, Malaysia, Canada, Namibia, Argentina, Japan, Portugal and the hosts.

It is also the first time in the 12-year history of the championships that they have taken place on British soil.

While the Great Britain men go in search of a hat-trick of titles, their female counterparts are aiming to regain the trophy they won in 2012 – Canada triumphed in Brazil two years ago.
