THE equation for Newbridge going into their penultimate Championship fixture of the season today is clear – lose at home to Glamorgan Wanderers and they could be relegated, writes David Williams.

Club officials, coaches and players will be hoping the fans turn out in force at the Welfare Ground (kick-off 2.30pm) to give the team every chance of securing a vital victory.

‘Bridge are currently four points from safety with two matches left.

Bedlinog occupy the first safe spot but should have enough to claim a bonus-point win against already-down Dunvant this afternoon.

Just one point above the Foxes sit Skewen, who in turn are one behind the Wanderers and Cardiff Met – those three sides only have one game remaining.

‘Bridge know if they lose to the Wanderers and Bedlinog and Skewen, who go to second-placed Narberth, both win today then it is goodbye to the Championship for them.

However, a ‘Bridge success, coupled with other results going in their favour, would see them survive for another day.

It’s basically one from five to go down with Dunvant, although we might not know who until Cardiff Met host the former on April 29, a week after ‘Bridge go to Narberth.

But if it hadn’t been for successive victories against Glynneath, Beddau and Ske-wen, ‘Bridge would be down already.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t manage to complete a league double over Glynneath last Saturday, though they did grab a losing bonus point in an 18-14 reverse.

At the other end of the table, champions Pontypool don’t have anything to worry about after clinching the title seven days ago.

They welcome Tata Steel to Pontypool Park today looking for a 20th win of the campaign.

Pooler are set to get their hands on the Championship trophy this afternoon before finishing the season at Bedlinog next Saturday.
