CROSS Keys may not be in the running for silverware this season but skipper Scott Matthews says his men won’t think about relaxing until their campaign is over.

Matthews is looking forward to today’s clash with RGC 1404 in Colwyn Bay (kick-off 2.30pm), as Keys look to derail the hosts’ push for the Principality Premiership crown.

Keys saw their hopes of a trophy ended by Llandovery last week in a 14-13 National Cup quarter-final loss at Pandy Park.

Now they are out of the cup and their chances of league honours are looking highly unlikely, many might expect Keys’ season to fizzle out.

And while he accepts they are now playing for pride, Matthews believes he and his teammates owe it to their loyal fans to keep fighting to the end.

“I’m looking forward to getting through the last couple of Gwent derbies, especially the Ebbw Vale game,” said Matthews, whose troops play Llanelli at home on Monday.

“But we obviously want to win every game we play and owe it to the supporters to win as many as we can.

“We want to climb the table and we’re not going to rest until the season is over.”

He added: “Last weekend (Keys beat Bargoed 9-0) was all about winning, no matter how we did it.

“It was a big game after missing out in the cup on the Wednesday.

“We’d put all our eggs in one basket for that tie so it was a bit upsetting to lose.

“It’s nice to be playing in North Wales this weekend against a good team.

“It was good to have training off on Wednesday but we know we have to be firing on all cylinders when we get out on the pitch.”

The Keys team features several changes from the one that edged out Bargoed.

Darren Hughes moves back to hooker having appeared in the back row, Tom Lampard switches to the back row and Harvey Reader starts for the first time at lock.

Owain Leonard is in at scrum-half and Dragons centre Jarryd Sage starts, while Samoan wing/centre Amosa Nove is on the bench.
