AARON Ramsey believes Wales are ready to surprise their Euro 2016 rivals in France next month.

Wales are bottom seeds in a group which will see them come up against England, Slovakia and Russia as they return to a major tournament for the first time in 58 years.

Chris Coleman's side open their campaign against Slovakia in Bordeaux on June 11 before meeting England and Russia.

And Ramsey, speaking at Wales' pre-Euros training camp at the Vale do Lobo resort in Portugal, said: "Now that we are here we don't just want to be rolled over.

"Every game we play we want to make a statement and we're more than capable of doing that.

"It's a big achievement not only for me personally, but also for the team and for our country.

"We've worked our socks off to get here and we want to prove we're more than capable of matching the bigger nations.

"We always believed in this group right from when Gary Speed took over. We knew what we had.

"Everything was put in place for us to carry on what we started, and from then on it's just been great.

"It's so exciting and we can't wait to get started now."

Arsenal midfielder Ramsey said there was also motivation from an individual perspective to perform well at a major tournament.

The 25-year-old was part of the Team GB side which competed at the London 2012 Olympics.

"I got a little taste of how it works (at the Olympics) with the games and the quick turnaround," said Ramsey.

"But this is different. We've known each other for a number of years now.

"It was one of the biggest targets in my career to help Wales to a major championship and I've finally achieved that.

"For me personally I've played in some big games, but everybody's eyes will be on this tournament.

"I want to show that I'm more than capable of standing up and proving I can play at this level."

Wales are sweating on the fitness of midfielder Joe Ledley, who suffered a leg fracture playing for Crystal Palace on May 7.

Ledley has travelled to Portugal as part of the 29-man squad and has had some light training away from the main group.

"It's good news that Joe has already done some training," said Ramsey. "He would be a big miss for us, but hopefully he'll be in with a shout.

"The amount of games that he's had, and the experience he's got, makes him a vital player for us."

Coleman names his final 23-man squad on Tuesday, and the Wales manager says the decision over whether to include Ledley will be the biggest call he has to make.
