AARON Jarvis believes the grit and determination showed by Wales in victory in Scotland bodes well for the rest of the Six Nations but the tighthead knows they will face a daunting prospect against France's beefy pack in Paris.

The Ospreys man was called into the starting XV at Murrayfield when Samson Lee was ruled out because of the blow to his head that he suffered in the opening night loss to England in Cardiff.

Jarvis worked hard in the loose before making way for Scott Andrews, making six tackles in a resilient defensive performance.

"The boys really dug deep, those two defensive sets (at the end of either half) really summed us," he said. "We were gritty and resilient, it was a big plus for the boys to show the guts and determination to keep them out."

The set piece still needs work and Jarvis will have a big part to play in Paris even if, as is likely, Lee regains his starting spot.

The French have formidable depth in their tight five and their replacements made an impact in their loss to Ireland in Dublin.

"The scrum was a bit of a mixed bag, we had a couple of good ones, so did they," said Jarvis.

"Scotland are strong, any international scrum is going to be hard work, there are no weak scrums around. It was a good battle, I thoroughly enjoyed the scrum.

"I thought it was reffed pretty well as well which is nice. Like I said, it was a good battle up front, it was pretty even.

"France will be tough," he continued. "I only caught a little bit of the game against Ireland, they are big, pretty large.

"You know what you are going to get with them, they are big, abrasive, physical, it will be another tough test."
