WALES star Jamie Roberts celebrated victory in France and confirmed that he is unlikely to be playing his rugby in Paris for much longer, writes Andrew Penman.

It emerged last week that the centre was set to leave Racing Metro and return to Wales, probably with his former club Cardiff Blues.

And after helping Warren Gatland’s men to a 20-13 win at the Stade de France, when pressed on where his future might lie, Roberts said: “I have no idea. I’ll probably say something in the next fortnight about that, but we shall see."

Despite the speculation, the 28-year-old maintained he had nothing to prove against France.

“I was just glad to play well in Paris against my Racing team-mates and guys I play against in the Top 14,” he said.

“The boys put their bodies on the line and that’s what international rugby is all about. It was a great team effort. Nobody wanted to miss a tackle at the end to concede a try.”

The win means Wales have kept alive their hopes of claiming the Six Nations title for a third time in four years.

The team has recovered well from the opening day defeat to England with wins on the road in Scotland and France but Roberts warned that they will need to improve again if they are to beat Ireland in Cardiff on March 14.

“Our set-piece deserves huge praise,” he added. “We have to give credit to the whole pack and the replacements.

“But we need to go up another level again to beat Ireland.”
