TYLER Morgan has been told to make a case for his defence when making his Wales debut against Ireland at the Millennium Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

The 19-year-old from Caerleon will be captain Scott Williams’ midfield partner for the World Cup warm-up against the Six Nations champions.

Morgan’s rapid rise to the international ranks has been down to some dazzling performances with ball in hand for Newport Gwent Dragons.

But Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards wants his new midfield pair – this will be the first time that neither the rested Jamie Roberts or injured Jonathan Davies have featured since the autumn Australia Test in 2013 – to be a brick wall against the Irish.

“On Tuesday, because the combinations had hardly been together at all, I was a little bit worried but we have improved,” said the rugby league great.

“While I won’t expect them to be perfect and have the same understanding as Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies, I think we have definitely improved as the week has gone on.

“Scott is used to playing 12 (for the Scarlets) and Tyler is used to playing 13 (for the Dragons), so it’s an opportunity for the pair of them.

“We know what a fantastic athlete Tyler is – his sensational speed on the outside break – while Scott is a very talented ball player in attack.

“It’s the defensive side of the game that they are working very hard at and hopefully we will see and improvement in them.”

Wales lock Jake Ball didn’t play a full part in the final preparations at the Millennium Stadium but will be fine to take his place in the starting XV.
