FORMER Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp says Wales have the players to beat England and make a real impact at Euro 2016, writes Andrew Penman.

Redknapp managed Wales star Gareth Bale and his Newport-born teammate Chris Gunter at White Hart Lane and was hotly tipped to manage the Three Lions before Roy Hodgson got the job.

And the ex-Spurs boss, who also managed AFC Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers, believes Wales can upset the odds this summer.

Asked if Wales had a chance of being crowned European champions this summer, Redknapp said: “Why not? Who would have thought Leicester City would have won the Premier League? Perhaps this is the year of the underdog.

“England should beat Wales if you look at the respective squads but anything can happen and no one side is ever certain of a win these days.

“And in Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Ashley Williams, Wales have three players for me who would walk straight into the England team.”

Redknapp added: “The attitude of the Welsh squad has been superb. Ramsey has always been a fantastic player for Wales.

“I knew Gareth was something special, but he needed toughening up at Spurs and Chris Gunter has been fantastic – he was a great kid at Spurs.”

Redknapp will be taking part in a special Euro 2016 preview dinner at the Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran on Friday, May 20.

The event will be hosted by former Premier League referee Jeff Winter and the evening will raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre.

The dinner will start at 7.30pm and will include a three-course meal and preview of Euro 2016. There will also be a charitable raffle and auction.
