FORMER Newport County AFC manager Peter Beadle is preparing to lead out Hereford FC at Wembley on Sunday as the Bulls take on Morpeth Town AFC in the FA Vase final.

Beadle, who left the Exiles in 2008, went on to manage Clevedon Town and worked as a coach at West Bromwich Albion and Cheltenham Town before becoming director of youth football at Hereford United.

In March 2014, following the departure of Martin Foyle, he was appointed caretaker manager at Edgar Street.

Beadle helped United avoid relegation from the Conference with a final day win at Aldershot Town.

But six weeks later the club was expelled by the Conference for non-payment of bills and then wound up in the Royal Courts of Justice in December 2014.

Beadle was appointed as the first manager of successor club Hereford FC in April last year.

And, assisted by former County coach Matt Bishop, he’s made a good start – winning the Midland League Premier Division, Midland Football League Cup, and Herefordshire County Cup and also leading Hereford to the FA Vase final.

The club are four promotions away from a return to the Football League but Beadle is trying not to get carried away.

“Even though we are getting 2,000 through the gate, the hardest thing is still putting a team out on the pitch that is going to win,” he said.

“If we had got knocked out in the semis of the Vase and finished fourth in the league, would that still be a fairy tale?

“I think so but I’m not sure all the fans would feel that way.

“Because of the size of the club and the number of fans we have, the expectation was there to win the league.

“We just have to try to maintain this enthusiasm. We have gone up in a straight line. There has been no steady incline.”

Hereford beat Steve Claridge’s Salisbury Town in the FA Vase semi-finals in March and have now sold 19,000 tickets for Sunday’s final at Wembley.

“The win at Salisbury was fantastic," said Beadle. "Up there with that day at Aldershot two years ago.

“It’s been a phenomenal year up to now but it would be a shame to come away from this final without another trophy in the cabinet.”

Wembley hosts its first ever non-league double header on Sunday with both the FA Trophy and the FA Vase finals to be played across staggered kick-off times.

Hereford will face Morpeth Town in the FA Vase final at 12.15pm and then at 4.15pm Grimsby Town will face Halifax Town to decide who lifts the 2016 FA Trophy.
