A WELSH Arts and Culture Festival will reach its climax tomorrow.

Gŵyl Newydd is the first festival celebrating the Welsh language in Newport and has hosted a range of events in the lead-up to main event, between 12pm and 4pm on Saturday.

“People think schools are the only provider of Welsh, but many people in the community use the language frequently and most people in Newport don’t know that,” explained Elin Maher of the Gŵyl Newydd Committee.

This highlight will be at Malpas Court, in Newport, with a host of stalls, performances and entertainment on offer.

There will be folk dancing by Gwerinwyr Gwent, music by Iwcs ukulele orchestra, theatrical performance by Mewn Cymeriad, and choirs will perform, including Côr y Dreigiau Choir, Afon Lwyd Choir, and local schools.

Singer, Mei Gwynedd, will headline the event, and there will be various stalls offering information, food and products.

This event is free, with no need to book in advance.
